The John Burns stained glass window, located on the ground level of the staircase to the choir loft, is inscribed, “Donated by John Burns”. John J. Burns was born in 1862 and died in 1938 at the age of 76 years old.  He donated the window when he was about 48 years old.

 

John J. Burns was the son of John Burns and Ann Doyle who emigrated from County Carlow, Ireland in 1842.  They were farmers here in Lake County and had nine children between 1843 and 1863; Mary Ann, Ellen, Christopher, Martin, Lucy, Jenny, Eliza, John J., and Willie.  John Burns held the offices of Township Clerk and School Trustee for various terms in Deerfield.  John died in 1861 at the age of 45 and Ann died in 1902 at the age of 84.  John J. Burns and his parents are interred in St. Patrick Cemetery.
