Teen Summer Service Opportunities

We have some exciting service opportunities for our parish teens this summer! 

The Beacon Place, Roberti House, Food Pantry, and Midwest Veteran’s Closet

need volunteers to assist with their missions over the summer months.

Beacon Place Waukegan

Beacon Place is a community center in southeast Waukegan with programs for kids and adults that allow them to see a path toward their own brighter tomorrow by building the life skills they need,  to achieve the dreams that they want.

 

More than 400 kids and adults are expected to attend their summer programs and LOTS of awesome teen volunteers are needed! You can choose the volunteer activity that best suits you! Whether it is having fun with kids as they enjoy a nutritious lunch and then stay for an afternoon of games, crafts, sports, music and more; or if it is working with kids kindergarten through 8th grade who want to try and improve their academic skills over the summer, or babysitting little ones, leading a cooking class with kids, working in the garden, we have a spot for you!  You can register as a volunteer directly on their website by clicking here or contact Veronica Pantelis at vmbach@comcast.net for more information.

Roberti Community House

The Roberti Community House (RCH) is a non profit organization located in Waukegan, Illinois. The RCH is intended to be a gathering place, a safe haven, where neighbors of all ages can come together to develop and share their skills and talents and celebrate their successes.  

 

Windy City Farm Lunches

Help prepare 30 lunches for low-income students in the Windy City Farm program.

Mondays: 9-11

 

Junior Green Youth Farm

Plant, tend & harvest in raised garden beds with community kids. Discuss healthy lifestyle choices through cooking and yoga.  Call to schedule an interview

Tuesday-Thursday: 8:30-12

 

Community Garden

While families visit the Holy Family Food Pantry, we provide a fun distraction for the kids out in the community garden. We help engage them in planting and caring for the garden, provide crafts, and offer samples of foods from the gardens. 

Tuesdays: 10-12

 

Master Chefs (Boys and Girls Ages 9+)

Students will prepare a different food item (or recipe) each week that they will have for lunch that day. Volunteers needed for food prep, student assistance, and clean up.

Tuesdays: June 28-July 26, 12-1:30

 

Junior Chefs (Boys and Girls Ages 6-8)

Students will prepare a different food item (or recipe) each week that they will have for lunch that day. Volunteers needed for food prep, student assistance, and clean up.

Thursdays: July 7-28, 12-1

 

Summer Reading & Math

Help lead community kids of all ages in activities and crafts related to various reading themes and math levels.

Tuesdays & Thursdays 1-3

Food Pantry

MBT Food Pantry

The Food Pantry began more than 20 years ago as a parish outreach in response to a growing need to accompany under-nourished families. According to Northern IL Food Bank, in Lake County, 1 out of 5 children and 1 out of 7 adults go to bed hungry every night. The Food Pantry distributes 2 TONS of food each month. In 2016, they served 30,312 individuals.  

We are looking for volunteers to grill hot dogs for the needy on Wednesday mornings.  There are two dates we need teen help; June 21st and July 25th.  View photos from our June 21st service day where we grilled hot dogs and lifted the spirits of those in need by CLICKING HERE.  Get involved and give on July 25th.

Midwest Veterans Closet

Midwest Veterans Closet, where it's Veterans Day everyday is a not-for-profit charity that is taking the lead in Impacting Veterans Lives by providing free clothing, household items, furniture, food pantry, housing as available, employment assistance, Drop-In Center, and dignity to our military heroes. ​Located at 2323 Green Bay Road in North Chicago, IL.

We are looking for teens this summer to pick up items such as dressers, recliners, end tables, etc. donated by individual's throughout the area.  To learn more about the Midwest Veterans Closet please click here. Please contact Veronica Pantelis at vmbach@comcast.net to volunteer.

On Friday, June 30th a group of our St. Patrick teens helped move two truckloads of furniture donated by the Cardinal Stritch Retreat House in Mundelein to the Midwest Veterans Closet.
