We are thrilled to embark on a study of this most beautiful of Gospels—and we think you will be too.
Each of the four evangelists is traditionally represented by a symbolic creature that reflects the character of their Gospel. Fittingly, St. John is symbolized by the eagle, for his Gospel soars to the heights of heaven in its revelation of Jesus’ divine identity and mission. While the three Synoptic Gospels share much in common, John’s account stands apart as the most unique and profoundly spiritual of the four.
In our study, we will explore St. John’s revelation of God as a family and our relationship to Him through grace. We will recognize Jesus’ divinity in the seven “signs” highlighted throughout the Gospel, as well as in the glory revealed in His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Every page radiates the theme of Divine Love.
This Gospel is rich with symbolism, sacramental imagery, Marian insights, fulfillment of Old Testament feasts and sacrifices, and theology of breathtaking depth. We can rightly expect that our journey through St. John’s Gospel will draw us into deeper faith, firmer hope, and greater love.
