Eucharistic Adoration
Every Wednesday in the Old Church. Exposition at 8:30 in the morning, Benediction at six in the evening.
The Blessed Sacrament is exposed all day. Parishioners come and go, and most give about half an hour. You do not need to sign up, and you do not need to stay the whole day.
If you have never done this before: you come in, you sit or kneel, and you stay as long as you have. That is the whole of it.

Marriage
Marriage is a lifelong union between a man and a woman, a sacrament reflecting Christ’s union with the Church.
Couples may marry in either of our two churches. The Old Church, built in 1910, is the one most couples ask for: small, warm, and full of the parish’s history. The New Church, from 1997, seats a larger congregation.
Call the parish office to begin. Preparation is required and takes time, so start the conversation well before you set a date with a venue.

Baptism
Baptism is our entrance into the Catholic Church, where we are cleansed of Original Sin and receive sanctifying grace.
The Church asks parents to come as soon as possible after birth, even before it. You do not need to have everything figured out first. Call the office and we will walk you through it. A child under seven is baptized in the same way as an infant.
Both parents attend two preparation classes, each about an hour, as required throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. You attend once as a family; later children do not require you to repeat it. Godparents are welcome to come as well.
You may set your date before the classes are finished, which helps if family is travelling in.

An adult seeking baptism
Adults are baptized through OCIA, not through this process. It begins whenever you decide to ask, and it asks nothing of you at the start but curiosity.
First Holy Communion
The third of the Sacraments of Initiation, prepared for in the ordinary course of our religious education programme.
Children prepare for First Holy Communion as part of PREP, which runs from first through seventh grade. There is no separate sign-up: registering your child for religious education is how you begin.

Which door is yours?
For a child, start with Religious Education. For an adult who has never received Communion, the path is OCIA.
Anointing of the Sick
The priest lays hands on the sick and anoints them with blessed oil, for spiritual strength and for the recovery of health.
This sacrament is not only for the dying. It is for anyone gravely ill, and for anyone about to undergo serious surgery. Like confession and communion, it can be repeated as often as it is needed.
If someone you love is in the hospital, in a nursing facility, or at home and unable to come to Mass, call the parish. A priest will come.

Confirmation
By Confirmation the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.
The sacrament deepens the relationship with God begun at baptism, strengthens union with Christ, increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit, perfects the bond with the Church, and gives particular strength to witness to the faith in word and in action.

Which door is yours?
Teenagers are confirmed through the parish’s programme in eighth and ninth grade, alongside youth ministry. Adults are confirmed through OCIA.
Funerals
When someone dies, call the parish. We will meet with you.
Speak with a priest to plan the funeral Mass or service. You do not need to arrive with decisions already made; that is what the meeting is for.
Joanne Manarik coordinates the parish notification so the community knows to pray for your family.
Reconciliation
Confession, every Saturday afternoon, no appointment needed.
If it has been a long time, say so when you sit down. The priest will help you through it. That sentence is the whole thing people are afraid of, and it is the one every priest is glad to hear.
