Fr. Dunn, a native Lake Forester, is the second oldest of eight children of Edward and Mary Dunn. Fr. Dunn was named after Rev. Laurence J. Daly, pastor of St. Patrick’s in the 1940’s.
Fr. Dunn attended St. Mary’s Grammar School in Lake Forest, the Archdiocesan Seminaries, and Chicago’s Loyola University. He has earned the S.T.B. Degree and two Masters degrees. He taught Theology at Loyola Academy (1969-72) and Theology and Psychology at Niles College of Loyola University (1972-85). While at Niles College he served as Dean of Formation and as Director of Counseling Services. During his years at Niles College, he was a staff member of the Catholic Family Consultation Services.

Cardinal Bernardin appointed Fr. Dunn as the fifth pastor of Northfield’s St. Philip the Apostle Parish in 1985. He served the St. Philip Parish Family for eighteen years until Cardinal George appointed him as associate pastor to Fr. Hal Stanger at Deerfield’s Holy Cross Parish in July 2003.

Fr. Dunn brings “Shadow” with him to St. Patrick’s. Shadow is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever “rescued” by Fr. Dunn when she was just ten months-old in September 2002. When time allows, Fr. Dunn enjoys reading history and adventure fiction, and “playing at golf”. He assures us that, even though the faces and landscape of our parish family and local area have changed since he last lived here, he is very happy and pleased to be a member of the parish family of St. Patrick once again.
