Middle School

ST. PATRICK MIDDLE SCHOOL IMPACT
IMPACT students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade register for the Middle School IMPACT program. After attending an information meeting, students make selections for the year from the IMPACT course catalogue. The catalogue is available for pick up in early August and selections are accepted back later in the month of August. Some selections have space limits. Forms are dated as they are returned.
Students are required to complete 15 units of credit in at least three of the five areas of study. These are:

Service – Choosing Service requires a Service Workshop, different each year and is the Social Justice lesson.
     Prayer Opportunities
     Tetreats
     Mini courses – All students are required to attend two mini course per year.
     Large Group Presentations

Mini courses IMPACT is now partnering with EDGE the Middle School Youth Ministry program to offer courses through the Life Teen Curriculum. Students must take one course each semester. Each course is taught for two sessions of two hours each. They will be offered on two Monday evenings and two Wednesday evenings from 6-8 and two Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 to 6:30 each semester. Students sign up for the day they prefer. It is a rotating curriculum so students will not repeat courses. The IMPACT/EDGE courses will better prepare our students for Confirmation using the same teaching method now used it that program.
Service Opportunities are generally in the parish. If a student chooses service they must attend a Service Workshop. This workshop is offered twice during the year. It is the teaching part of service and is required in order to receive credit for service done. Independent service may be done with the prior approval of the Religious Education office and completion of a reflection form.
Prayer Opportunities are both parish wide and those specifically for the middle school students.

Large Group Presentations or Speakers on relevant topics are offered from two to four times per year.
Retreats are offered during the year.
IMPACT Boot Camp is offered in August and is one week of intense study fulfilling the two mini-course requirement as well a Service Workshop and one service This earns 10 units of credit and the remaining 5 units must be done during the school year different areas.
