Thursday Morning SCRIPTURE STUDY 2009 Fall Session: October 1 – December 10 The Gospel of Mark: The Good News of Jesus Christ “Be Opened!” – and immediately the man’s ears were opened. We heard the story from Mark’s gospel of Jesus healing a deaf man at the weekend Masses on Sept. 5-6. Throughout Mark’s gospel, Jesus is intent on getting people to hear him. “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear,” Jesus says after telling the crowd the story of the sower who goes out to sow. Jesus wants us to be like the rich soil, listening to Him and taking in and accepting His words so that they grow in us and bear much fruit. We have heard excerpts from Mark’s gospel read during weekend Masses for much of the summer and our gospel readings will continue to be taken from this gospel until Advent. This fall St. Patrick’s Thursday Morning Scripture Study group will focus on the Gospel of Mark. Please consider joining us as we take a close look at this fast-paced, plain-spoken gospel. Our co-ed group meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 9:30 until 11:00 in the O'Gara Parish Activity Center. No previous Bible study experience is necessary – all are welcome! The Fall Session will begin on October 1 and run for ten weeks. Our study, reflection and discussion will be based on the Scriptures and on a commentary by Mary Healy, The Gospel of Mark, which is part of the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture series. A $20 participation fee covers the cost of the commentary and other study materials. To register for the Fall Session or to obtain more information, please contact Susan Carlson 847-295-9714 or SMcCarlson@aol.com. |
