The Week Prior to Thanksgiving

Requested food items and cash donations are collected during the week before Thanksgiving; food is packed and delivered to The Food Pantry in Waukegan on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.  Food is distributed at The Food Pantry the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

The parish is requested to donate specific food items and/or cash during the week prior to Thanksgiving. Notices are put in the bulletin as well as sent out to children in the Religious Education program. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving after 11:30 mass, the food items are put into individual grocery bags for specific families.  Selected family names are given to us by Emma Villanueva from The Center’s Food Pantry. When all bags are filled, the bags are driven up to the Food Pantry in Waukegan. The bags of food are then picked up from the pantry Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week by the selected families.

All parishioners are requested to donate food and/or cash. In addition, volunteers are requested to sort the food before the packing process, to pack the food into the bags, to drive the bags to the pantry and to sort the bags at the pantry.  Also, volunteers are requested to assist at the pantry in handing out the bags on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.
