The risen Jesus said: “Listen!  I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my

Voice and open the door, I will come in to you.”   (Rev. 3:20)

Beginning February 17, 2009, St. Patrick’s will begin the first session of the Threshold Bible Study The Tragic and Triumphant Cross.”

The cross is both the world’s most contemptible instrument of punishment and the symbol of humanity’s greatest hope.  In turning this tool of torture into his followers’ proudest boast, Jesus produced the most dramatic reversal the world has ever experienced.  Worn around our necks, hung in our homes, carried in procession, and set on mountaintops, the cross speaks to what we believe about Jesus and about how we understand our lives in relationship to him.  This study plumbs the depths of Scripture for the horrible and glorious significance of the world’s most beloved symbol.  Consider making this study part of your Lenten observance.

This course will run six consecutive weeks beginning Tuesday, February 17th, and conclude Tuesday, March 24th.  We will meet in Conference Room #1 in the Ministry Center from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.  There will be a charge of $12.95 for study guide/commentary.  To insure the availability of study material, registration is required and can be done by calling the Ministry Center at (847) 234-1401 and can begin immediately.  This course is open to all and will be facilitated by Brett Swearingen, our pastoral associate at St. Patrick’s.
